SIFMA Ops 2016 Preview: DTCC Executives Highlight Several Panels

Speakers from The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) will contribute to four panels at SIFMA Ops 2016, May 2-5 in Miami Beach, Fla.

SIFMA Ops, now in the 43rd year, brings together leaders in financial services operations and technology. The sessions will look to provide insights and strategies to help firms better understand regulatory issues and industry developments. 

Six DTCC speakers will be involved in panels on clearing for fixed income and equities, corporate actions, collateral management and operational leadership.

The following is a preview of the sessions involving DTCC:

Equity and Fixed Income Clearing Panel

Moderated by Thomas Sakaris, DTCC Managing Director, Equity Clearing, this session will provide insight into a number of DTCC and industry initiatives designed to promote capital and cost efficiencies, regulatory compliance, and safety and soundness in the financial markets. Panelists will discuss innovations to promote buy-side clearing, such as Centrally Cleared Institutional Tri-Party (CCIT), Secured Financing Transaction (SFT) and ID Clearing, equity market structure risk mitigation, and Bulk Transfer.

Panelists include Sean Delap, DTCC Vice President, Clearing Services; Bill Kapogiannis, DTCC Executive Director, Equity Clearing; Jim Hraska, Global Director of Secured Financing Product Management, Barclays; and James Rochford, Director, Global Head of Equity Trading Operations, Deutsche Bank.

Corporate Actions Panel

Dan Thieke, DTCC Managing Director and General Manager, Settlement and Asset Services, will be part of the “Corporate Actions” panel. This session will provide timely updates on issues impacting corporate actions in 2016. The discussion will include a focus on the impending shift to T+2, and how it will affect both regulatory and operational processes pertaining to corporate actions.

The panel will be moderated by Lawrence Conover, Vice President, Fidelity Investments, and will also include Vincent Boyle, Senior Vice President, General Manager, Brokerage Processing, Broadridge Financial Solutions; Silvio “Joe” Conte, Head of Corporate Actions, NYSE; and James Monahan, Executive Director and Regional Head of North America Position Services, Morgan Stanley.

Operational Leadership: Key Insights for 2016 and Beyond

Murray Pozmanter, DTCC Head of Clearing Agency Services and Global Operations and Client Services, will join this panel of industry experts to discuss the critical operational issues impacting the industry today and in the future.. Panelists will explore how firms are implementing new regulations, with a keen focus on operational risk management and increased operating efficiencies.

The panel will be moderated by Christopher Vickery, Managing Director and Chief Operations Officer, Americas, and Global Head of Enterprise Data Management, Nomura Securities. Panelists include Norman Eaker, Chief Administrative Officer, Edward D. Jones; Joe Guardino, Managing Director & Global Head of Operations, Bank of America Merrill Lynch; Michael Herskovitz, Senior Vice President and Partner, AB.

Collateral Management

Buy- and sell-side professionals will come together to discuss innovative solutions to meet the industry’s evolving collateral management needs. This panel will share insights on operational processes that need to be considered  as firms introduce more computerized models for both collateral optimization and the increased volume of margin calls.

Mark Jennis, Executive Chairman of DTCC-Euroclear GlobalCollateral Ltd., will be a panelist. He will be joined by Ky Dong, Global Trade Services, Franklin Templeton Investments; and Christopher Walsh, Chief Executive Officer, AcadiaSoft. Thomas Ciulla, Partner, PricewaterhouseCooper will be the panel moderator.
