New York, March 4, 2004 - Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., renowned author, lecturer, historian and Harvard University professor, will make a guest appearance at The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) tomorrow, Friday, March 5, at noon for a screening of his Public Broadcasting System (PBS) documentary, "America Beyond the Color Line."
The documentary, based on Dr. Gates' book of the same name, was first aired on PBS in early February. It captures the author as he travels to different areas of America, examining the African-American experience and what it means to be black and American at the start of the new century. The presentation of the documentary tomorrow is part of DTCC's 2004 Diversity Education Series.
"We are once again honored to have Dr. Gates join us at DTCC to bring his unique perspective on the African-American experience," said Jill M. Considine, DTCC's chairman and CEO. "The documentary, like his book, explores the rich and diverse landscape of black America, and we're very happy that Dr. Gates is able to share that experience with our employees."
Dr. Gates was a guest speaker at DTCC's African-American Heritage Month Celebration two years ago after he had co-edited Encarta Africana, a multi-media CD-ROM encyclopedia focusing on the history, geography and culture of the people of African descent worldwide. DTCC later distributed free copies of Encarta Africana to schools throughout New York City.
