To help its members defend against the rapidly rising number of cyber attacks targeting the U.S. healthcare system, The National Healthcare and Public Information Sharing Analysis Center (NH-ISAC) has selected Soltra EdgeTM as the NH-ISAC community’s cyber-threat solution.
Soltra™, the joint venture between The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) and The Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), launched Soltra Edge in November 2014. Soltra Edge collects cyber threat intelligence from various sources, converts it into an industry standard language and provides actionable intelligence to help users better protect their organizations.
NH-ISAC’s decision to standardize and share cyber-threat data with its health-sector member organizations was announced in a press release issued by Soltra on May 5.
A rise in cyber attacks against doctors and hospitals is costing the U.S. health-care system $6 billion a year as cyber criminals increasingly go after medical records, according to the study “Criminal Attacks: The New Leading Cause of Data Breach in Healthcare,” published by the Ponemon Institute, a security research and consulting firm.
The Ponemon Institute study revealed that criminal attacks against health-care providers have more than doubled in the past five years, with the average data breach costing a hospital $2.1 million. Nearly 90 percent of healthcare providers were hit by breaches in the past two years, half of them criminal in nature, the report found.
