DTCC Learning Courses Earn ICB Accreditation

DTCC Learning Courses Earn ICB AccreditationClients of the Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC) can take four courses in financial services education that are now accredited.

The courses are offered by DTCC Learning and have earned Certified Securities Operations Professional (CSOP) accreditation from the Institute of Certified Bankers (ICB), which is a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association (ABA).

These interactive classes – ranging from 90 minutes to five hours -- are some of the most highly requested by clients, helping them gain a wider perspective on DTCC’s role in the financial services industry, while also receiving credits for CSOP certification.

CSOP certification is an industry-recognized standard of competency and a requirement to maintain ABA membership. These courses are highly comprehensive and updated continually throughout the year, according to changes in financial industry standards and systems.

Classes can be taken at any one of DTCC’s upcoming regional client events, or scheduled directly with our trainers in a custom training opportunity.

The following courses are approved by the ICB for CSOP certification:

  • Introduction to the Securities Industry and DTCC: 3.5 CSOP credits
  • Overview of Corporate Actions: 4.5 CSOP credits
  • Overview of Clearance (NSCC) and DTC Settlement: 5.5 CSOP credits
  • Overview of Mortgage-Backed Securities (MBS): 2 CSOP credits (Available only in Jersey City)

Course Descriptions
Introduction to the Securities Industry and DTCC

This three-hour course provides attendees with a broad understanding of the back-office crunch, terminology and of the DTCC and the securities industry terminology, the types of investment products, the secondary markets and the life cycle of a DTC, NSCC and Omgeo Trade.

Overview of Corporate Actions

This four- hour course provides an in-depth understanding of U.S. corporate actions (CA) on securities eligible for DTC processing, including: income events and interest payments, cash and stock distributions, stock splits, instructions and exchange of securities events through the CA web. Throughout the course, the corporate action life cycle process is reinforced to ensure an understanding of the triggers and time-critical activities necessary for successful transaction handling.

Overview of Clearance (NSCC) and DTC Settlement

This four-hour course provides an overview of NSCC’s Continuous Net Settlement (CNS), along with settling equities and fixed-income securities that are NSCC and DTC-eligible. The class describes how CNS centralizes the settlement of compared security transactions, maintaining an orderly flow of security and money balances.

The DTC settlement segment of the class provides an overview of settlement activities, which take place at DTC starting with the events leading to settlement through end-of-day settlement (final figures).

Overview of Mortgage-Backed Securities

This 90 minute course provides an overview of the MBSD and its pivotal role in reducing risk within the MBS marketplace. Clients learn how MBSD’s services reduce risk and increase operational efficiencies, and the competitive edge they can gain by acquiring MBSD membership.
