DTCC and Coleg Cambria Collaborate on New Summer Academy Programme; Offer 10 Apprentice Roles

Wrexham, Wales, July 6, 2016 – The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the premier post-trade market infrastructure for the global financial services industry, today announced the launch of a new initiative with partner Coleg Cambria, one of the U.K.'s largest colleges, to support the recruitment of apprentices in the North East Wales area. The joint ‘Summer Academy Programme’ will run for a four-week period commencing July 19 through August 11, at which point ten successful candidates will join the 2016 ‘DTCC Europe Academy–Apprenticeship Programme’ starting in September.

“North Wales is a great place to do business – with talented individuals, a strong student population and a supportive community”, said Paul Barlow, Site Lead at DTCC Wrexham and Chief Operating Officer of Avox Data Services. “As testament to this, we have grown more than ten-fold since we opened our Wrexham office over a decade ago, to 550 staff. A third of these new employees have come through Coleg Cambria and the local university, and we look forward to welcoming the successful applicants to DTCC in the not too distant future.”

An apprenticeship is a nationally–recognised training programme that combines real-life work experience with study. DTCC Apprentices will develop technical skills, working alongside experienced staff, and study towards a vocational qualification, while improving their Math, English and ICT skills, over a period of one-to-two years. In effect, the apprentice is ‘earning and learning’. DTCC Apprentices will attend classroom sessions at Coleg Cambria one day per week for 34 weeks each year, and will follow a structured scheme of learning.
