DTCC-Euroclear Global Readies Collateral Conference in New York

Collateral ConferenceDTCC-Euroclear Global Collateral Ltd. is hosting its 2nd Annual Collateral Conference for the Americas in New York on September 20 at the JW Marriott Essex House. The theme for the half-day event is: “The Collateral Management Conundrum – Can Regulatory Compliance and Strategic Solutions Co-Exist?”

This year’s conference promises to be not only topical, but also interactive with recent regulatory and technological developments in collateral management. The day will feature a number of high-profile speakers on the dais. Last year’s event attracted a large cross-section of the industry, with representatives from the buy side, sell side, custodian banks, as well as market infrastructure experts and policymakers in attendance.

Speakers will include Mark Jennis, Executive Chairman, DTCC-Euroclear GlobalCollateral Ltd., who will open the conference. Michael Bodson, President & CEO, DTCC, and Jo Van de Velde, Managing Director, Head of Product Management, Euroclear and Executive Director, DTCC-Euroclear GlobalCollateral Ltd, will also speak to welcome attendees.

Tom Wipf, Managing Director and Global Head of Bank Resource Management, Morgan Stanley, headlines as this year’s Keynote speaker. He will address moving beyond simply meeting compliance standards to developing a more strategic outlook. The rest of the day’s panels will continue along the day’s theme, and offer a view into striking a balance between regulation and strategy.

The first session: “The Long and Short (Term View) of Regulatory Compliance for the Buy-Side,” features a panel of senior buy-side industry leaders representing global investment managers, administrators, and custodians. The focus will be on being prepared for regulation. Ted Leveroni, Chief Commercial Officer, DTCC-Euroclear GlobalCollateral Ltd., will moderate.

The next session, “Behind the Regulatory Curtain,” continues along the theme of rulemaking, offering an in-depth view into the creation and logic behind rule creation. In addition, it also addresses the challenging task of turning concepts into reality.

Speakers include:

  • Sean Campbell, Associate Director, Banking Supervision and Regulation, Federal Reserve Board
  • Mark Wetjen, Managing Director, Global Public Policy, DTCC

Tom Ciulla, Principal, PwC, will present a white paper, “Collateral 2.0 - The Future of Collateral Management,” which offers a roadmap that both builds on regulatory compliance efforts and creates a strategic platform that optimizes funding, as well as risk and cost reduction.

The panel, “The Sell-Side Balancing Act,” offers insights into how the sell side has been able to navigate regulatory compliance and provide value-add services to clients, while keeping an edge in a highly competitive business. The panel will address the challenges and solutions in striking this balance. Deborah North, Partner, Allen & Overy LLP, will moderate the session.

Michael Shipton, CEO, DTCC-Euroclear Global Collateral Ltd., will end the day with his assessment and Closing Remarks.
