The Power of Encouragement

Kickstart Your Career

Zach is a senior at the University of Maryland, majoring in Marketing. Upon graduation, Zach would like to begin a long career in Marketing, working collaboratively with an energetic team to accomplish great things.

My previous internship was with a small company, so I truly did not know what to expect on my first day at DTCC. Moving to a bigger company can be frightening, but DTCC ensured I was comfortably transitioned into what would become a pivotal role in the department.

I was immediately introduced by my manager to several people in my department. It was extremely comforting to be warmly welcomed by everyone. It took away a lot of those "first day" nerves and allowed me to establish a connection with people who were willing to help.

This is one aspect I believe that DTCC excels in. The openness and willingness to help others. I was encouraged to present my ideas and share my new perspective with teams across the department. The idea that I could walk in on my first day and have a valued opinion is something that I do not believe exists at a lot of companies.

"I walk away from this internship not only more experienced, but a changed person."

As the internship went on, I was able to get my hands on several projects and gain the overall marketing perspective I was seeking. I was put through a bi-weekly rotation where I was able to get involved with multiple teams. The constant across all these teams was the continued support. Multiple people throughout the department arranged 1-on-1 meetings with me to discover what they could do to make my experience the best it can be. They really helped me pinpoint what role I want to play in the future and were an open source for questions whenever I needed.

I walk away from this internship not only more experienced, but a changed person. My coworkers have truly inspired me to be the type of figure that they were to me. The feeling of a supporting cast that wants to help others progress with their goals and careers is one like no other. The feeling of being that supportive figure is even more invigorating. As a college senior, I go back to school looking to implement this mentality by helping younger students in the business school reach their goals and forge their career paths. I look forward to what my future brings and hope to be able to make the same impact on people that DTCC made on me.
