The Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) at DTCC foster an environment that respects and values diversity and inclusion. DC: Tell us about your role at DTCC.
DE: I began working at DTCC after completing my Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Prairie View A&M University in 2015. I’m currently a Data Analytics Associate Director for the Compliance Governance and Reporting Team. My team focuses on enhancing the monthly and board reports for Compliance, utilizing automation and analytic tools to streamline those reports.
DC: What do you consider to be your biggest business accomplishment to date?
DE: In my previous role, I worked in IT Security Management and our team identified several MSIs for the exposure of unencrypted AWS objects. My team collaborated with platform and engineering teams across IT to apply the appropriate level of encryption on thousands of S3 buckets, Lambda, and EBS Volumes to ensure the on-time closure of each MSI and mitigate a large security risk to DTCC.
DC: Describe your ERG journey.
DE: My ERG journey began because I didn’t like the SharePoint site that the then named group - the Black BPN - utilized, and I wanted to revamp it. After speaking with the current Co-Chairs at the time and sharing my thoughts and vision for the new site, I was added to the Black BPN Leadership Team.
Being a part of the (now “BOLD”) leadership team has truly expanded my network within DTCC and given me opportunities to collaborate with people I may not have come across in my primary role. We constantly communicate opportunities for lateral and upward mobility, and this ultimately led to me attaining my current role within Compliance.
BOLD has always been a place where I’ve felt safe to express my true self. We offer each other a community of support and guidance with people from similar backgrounds to be able to vent on social issues, develop content to educate others, and celebrate the accomplishments and advancement of African Americans.
I have a 6-year-old niece who I babysit from time-to-time. On one occasion, her mom dropped her off after she had just finished getting her hair done. I said to her; “Your hair looks so nice” and reached towards her head. My niece immediately slapped my hand away and said, “Don’t touch it…I’m cute”.
DC: If you were a brand, what would be your motto?
DE: “Make the money, don’t let it make you” – I chose this quote because I heard it in a movie when I was younger, and it always stuck with me. Essentially, the pursuit of money became the downfall of one of the characters. She compromised her morals and goals all for the mighty dollar.
I like this quote because it serves as a reminder, money can change your circumstances, but don’t let it change who you are.
