Securities Processing Application

Simplify securities inventory management and electronic transaction processing through a centralized platform that improves transparency, reduces operational friction and supports evolving market needs.

Securities Processing Application (SPA)

A Centralized Solution for Securities Processing

Securities processing often requires firms to navigate multiple systems, complete manual steps and piece together information from different sources. The Securities Processing Application (SPA) gives DTC Participants and FAST Transfer Agents a unified platform for managing securities inventory and related transactions held at the depository, bringing key processing tools and operational information into one centralized location.

SPA simplifies navigation, improves visibility into inventory and transaction status and supports more consistent processing. The platform helps reduce manual work, strengthen operational control and give firms a scalable foundation for adapting as market practices, client expectations and securities processing needs continue to evolve.

Our Securities Processing Transformation

SPA, launched in March 2023 with FAST Balance Confirmation processing, enabled FAST transfer agents to monitor and confirm inventory balances. This was followed by the launch of Deposit/Withdrawal at Custodian (DWAC) in March 2024. Participants can use SPA to input and view deposit and withdrawal instructions via the new portal application. FAST agents can review and approve or reject DWAC transactions. DTC also introduced Automated Programming Interface (API) and MQ-based functionality which allows for machine-to-machine connectivity and real time transaction processing for participants and FAST agents.

During the next phase of Securities Processing Transformation, DTC will focus on the Direct Registration System (DRS). This includes DRS Profile Deposits, DRS Withdrawal by Transfer transactions, and DRS Centralized Billing.

SPA will be further developed through a multi-year, multi-phased approach, with different functionalities unveiled at every stage. The following is a breakdown of the sequence in which each planned SPA functionality will be phased into the application:

  • Phase 1: Inventory Management - FAST Balance Confirmations (Transfer Agents) and Custody Inventory Inquiry (Participants) (completed)
  • Phase 2: Modernize Electronic Transactions: DWAC and DWAC Centralized Billing (completed)
  • Phase 3: Direct Registration System (DRS) and DRS Centralized Billing
  • Phase 4: DSF Centralized Billing and API Connectivity
